World Hemophilia Day - 17 April 2026
17/04/2026
On 17 April, we at HemoNED pause to reflect on hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders. For many people, a timely and accurate diagnosis is the first step toward appropriate care. This aligns with this year's global theme Diagnosis: first step to care. Worldwide, more than three‑quarters of people with hemophilia have not yet been diagnosed, and the numbers are even higher for other bleeding disorders.
From conversations within our own community, we know that women and girls are often recognised late. Their symptoms are not always seen as signs of a bleeding disorder, something that is also reflected internationally and is partly due to a lack of awareness among both patients and healthcare professionals.
For HemoNED, World Hemophilia Day is a moment to focus on the people behind these numbers. Patients, parents, healthcare professionals and researchers work every day to improve recognition and care. By staying alert to symptoms, sharing knowledge and strengthening diagnostics, we take steps together toward a future in which no one remains without a diagnosis unnecessarily.
